What to Wear
Generally, blue jeans and a white shirt look great on the beach. Khaki bottoms and white shirts also photograph well. Colors such as black, red and blue photograph well against the natural colors of the beaches. Avoid the look of shinny make-up by using a light powder. Wear what you feel good in; it really does show through in the images when you are comfortable.
Avoid clothes with busy patterns and crazy colors, as they take away from the most important subject . . .you. Ladies, if you are wearing a skirt or dress, keep in mind that you may be seated for some poses.
Children –
It is really important that children have fun and feel very comfortable when I am shooting your session. I love to interact with them and make them feel at ease. It may be helpful to bring along their favorite comfort toy or “blankie”. It is more likely that a child's true personality will be captured in beautiful, natural pictures if they are at ease. Please be sure your little ones are well rested and have eaten recently. Feel free to bring a snack along with you. If you want to have a quick change of clothes available for different looks, that is fine. I am all about having fun with kids. In addition to any other props you would like to use, I love hats and find it fun to play behind the camera with people wearing them, especially the little ones.
Large Groups –
It is always helpful if when am shooting a large group made of multiple families that the each individual family wear a complimentary, but different color, so they are easily identified. Example, family 1 – blue, family 2 – white, family 3 yellow. This makes for a well-balanced and interesting portrait.
